[re]veer is David Qualls, Jim Hetrick, George Brais, and Brett DeBoer. Dave and George are teachers at Ceasar Chavez High School and Jim and Brett teach at University of the Pacific. They started playing music together after Dave and Brett got inspired by a concert they saw at Shapeshifters in Oakland. The motivation was to create something that was a combination of visual art and music. Aong with Jim and George, the four began to talk about the concept of musical and visual conversations and what that might mean. As [re]veer, they knew they wanted to leave plenty of room for in the moment improvisation within an established structure.The creation of video follows a similar approach of initial free-form experimentation that reveals a more defined purpose or meaning. Together, the goal is a visual and musical storytelling experience that inspires self-reflection and provokes conversation. Other than that, it's challenging to describe exactly what kind of music we are trying to play. It has underlying connections to Acid Jazz, Fusion and Prog Rock but doesn't neatly fit in any single musical genre. They are definitely having fun though.
